Gary is the BDAS Owner, Biochemist, Analytical Chemist, and Sensory Specialist. He’s here to educate us all.
Gary knows so many people in the industry and is very enthusiastic about sharing ideas with fellows in the business. Some people complain that they don't like walking across a tradeshow hall with him as they really would like to make it to the other side before the show ends.
Philip is a BDAS Lab Manager and Lead Chemist, who also provides GC Services. He helps distillers avoid pitfalls on their path to liquid enlightenment.
Phil has whitewater kayaked since he was only 13 and he’s recently getting into rock climbing, so he’s very outdoorsy, which is something that pops up in this industry a lot.
Matt is a BDAS LLC Manager and Lead Microbiologist. He helps brewers track down and detect offending microorganisms in their beers and breweries.
Matt’s first experience with craft beer was like many others, as a consumer and home brewer. While attending college at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, the opportunity to start a career in the craft brewing industry was made possible by “Introduction to Zymology,” a course offered through the Microbiology department which focused on the history and science of brewing. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Bacteriology, Matt traveled across the US in search of work, which eventually landed him in Lexington, KY as the Lead Microbiologist for Brewing and Distilling Analytical Services, LLC in 2012.
BDAS Generalist and HPLC services specialist. She’ll help with all things sweet and her sugar analyses are beyond compare.
Jessi graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in May of 2017 with a degree in Forensic Science. She took a fermentation science class her senior year as a fun chemistry class (because who doesn’t like beer and science!) and she loved it. When one of her professors mentioned that Gary was hiring, she didn’t hesitate.
Favorite Beer: Belgian Wits
Odd Fact: She has watched the entire Futurama series from start to finish over 7 times.
Tony is our sensory and computer software specialist. He developed the software we use for efficient sensory evaluation. Furthermore, he leads our teaching outreach program; setting up programs for classes on distilled spirits and beer which are taught both on-site and off-site at client locations.
